Car hire in Orlando and Florida
Orlando is located almost at the centre of Florida State, which makes it a really convenient starting point for any journey.
It is also quite easy to reach if you are driving from another city, for example Jacksonville to the north or Miami and Fort Myers on the south.
In this city, where the sun shines 300 days a year, there are countless opportunities for entertainment.
Orlando attractions are situated in different parts of the city and around it, so renting a car is the right choice if you are going to see all of them, or at least the main ones.
Budget has several car hire stations, conveniently located throughout the city, including Orlando International Airport, International Drive and more.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Orlando is probably its amusement parks: Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort.
Both are situated to the south west of the city, along the I-4 Highway. Be sure you visit them, allowing at least one day for each. Even if you are travelling without children, the sight of your favourite movie and cartoon characters coming to life along with the breath-taking rides will win you over.
In Universal Citywalk Centre, as well as in DownTown Disney, you can enjoy the nightlife with numerous bars, clubs and themed parties. There is also a permanent Cirque Du Soleil show in DownTown Disney.
In downtown Orlando, the main street with lots of bars, restaurants, hotels and shops is Orange Avenue. Together with Wall Street and Church Street, it is the epicentre of nightlife within the city. Another downtown attraction is Lake Eola, which is set in a park, with the fountain that is considered an unofficial Orlando symbol.
When driving around the city, keep in mind that there can be a heavy traffic approaching downtown in the afternoon; while the roads heading to the main tourist attractions are quite busy from Friday to Saturday evening. You can get free information updates about the traffic by calling 511 at any time.
Of course, there are plenty of amazing places within easy reach of Orlando. One such place is Cape Canaveral with its NASA Kennedy Space Center.
Make sure you have enough time to visit it though, as it is huge and comprises lots of things to do and to see, including even (if you are lucky!) the Shuttle start.
To fully enjoy the sun and the ocean, you can head away from the city to one of the famous beaches, situated on the East and West Florida coastlines.
Daytona Beach, New Smyrna and Cocoa Beach are the closest if you are driving from downtown Orlando. But if you wish to discover more of the coastline, there is also Satellite Beach with its small seaside town atmosphere, the romantic Playalinda (situated in a natural reserve), St. Augustine with its historical forts and many, many more.
For wildlife watching and relaxing outdoor activities, you can visit the nearby natural parks and reserves, such as Wekiwa Springs State Park, Blue Spring State Park, Rock Springs Run State Reserve and others.
To get to the famous Everglades National Park from Orlando you will need at least 4 hours, so it is sensible to spend several days there, keeping in mind its size and the range of activities it offers.
Budget car hire is a good choice if you are thinking of starting the trip in one city and finishing in another. With our one-way car hire you won’t need to return the car in the same city at the end of your journey.
If Orlando is the starting point of your journey and you are wondering where to go from there, it really depends on your preferences in terms of activities, climate and the amount of time you have. It is definitely worth spending a couple of weeks in Florida in order to explore everything it has to offer.
But if you are curious about the variety of climates, lifestyles and landscapes the US offers, you can head north to other states or even to Canada, enjoying some beautiful drives in Kentucky and Tennessee. The most direct way to go there is by Interstate-75. For a more scenic (though longer) drive, consider taking I-79 and I-77 through Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina.
Don't forget to choose useful extras like GPS and child seats in your branch.
