National Exhibition Centre

Each year the NEC plays host to over 500 conferences and special events, as well as over 160 consumer and trade fairs. The airport is also the closest UK airport to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. The city itself is a thriving metropolis, home to over a million people and its culture and the range of menus available in its restaurants reflect the diversity of its population.

The Sparkbrook area is where the Balti was created and today Birmingham is home to three Michelin-star restaurants. The city also has a vibrant cultural scene, ranging from the Symphony Hall to grassroots cutting edge festivals, such as the Artsfest.

Black Country Museum

The Black Country Museum was established in 1975 and features a fascinating collection of the heritage and history of the West Midlands. The museum covers an area of 26 acres, which includes residential and industrial properties of the time.

There are displays showing how people would have worked and lived in periods ranging from the 18th century to the present day. Live demonstrations, combined with staff in period costume, really give the feel of having stepped back in time. Call in at the sweetshop or the bakery to see how the locals would have shopped and sample some of their wares.

Cadbury World

Cadbury World is one of the West Midlands’ main attractions, playing host to over 500,000 people each year. The Cadbury brothers, who established the firm, began with a single shop in Birmingham and went on to create a chocolate empire with factories across the world.

At the factory at Bournville, the town that was created especially for Cadbury workers, visitors can learn how cocoa beans are grown and made into chocolate and of course there is a shop where it is possible to purchase a wide range of the company’s products, all at factory prices.

Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle is one of England’s best examples of a medieval castle. The structure dates back over 1,000 years and it was William the Conqueror who first fortified it in 1068. Home to some of the most powerful Earls in the country, the castle’s fortifications are very impressive.

Capability Brown landscaped the grounds outside the walls and over the years the castle has played host to Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, George IV and Edward VII.

Inside, the building is equally memorable, with fantastic collections of tapestries, furniture, armour and paintings.

Weston Park

Weston Park, in Shropshire, is one of England's most welcoming stately homes with plenty of character and stories to tell.

The house was built in 1671 and is the Earl of Bradford's ancestral home. P. G. Wodehouse used Weston Park as the inspiration for his Blanding’s Castle. Each year the house plays host to game fairs, rallies and the annual V festival; on occasion even summits of world leaders.

The house is set in 1,000 acres of beautiful parkland, with a miniature railway and woodland adventure playground. Architecturally, the house is stunning and has some magnificent gardens. The Granary Art Gallery features work by acclaimed artists and also displays works on loan from private collections.
