From Austria and Switzerland, to Canada and beyond, we understand a winter holiday can be fantastic fun. However, driving in snowy or icy conditions can be daunting.

Wherever you're going, our range of winter products are designed for your safety and convenience. We understand car rental can be difficult and it's our goal to change this by making all our products and services transparent for our customers.

What are Winter Products?

If you are planning to drive in snowy conditions or are taking your annual ski holiday, Budget want to make your car rental experience easier, safer and more convenient.

That is why we offer a range of Winter Products including:

Snow Tyres - As many countries experience snowy conditions throughout the year, winter tyres are necessary to drive and during specific times of the year are compulsory by law.

For certain countries, winter tyres are fitted free of charge, whereas other countries may charge a fee. Please contact our call centre for specific country terms on 0808 284 4444.

Snow Chains - During the winter season, although snow chains are not compulsory, they can offer an extra level of control and reassurance when driving in snowy weather. Snow chains are available to rent at certain branches.

Ski Racks - Whether you are a novice skier or a seasoned expert, if you are planning on taking your own skis, you'll need a ski rack. Ski racks are available for hire at selected Budget branches and can be reserved when making your booking via the website or call centre.

How can I purchase Winter Products?

Our winter products can be requested during the normal online booking process, by selecting the appropriate tick boxes which appear once you have selected your vehicle. They will be located under the 'Add Extras' section. You will also be asked at the rental station upon pick up whether you wish to purchase any winter products (if available).

Another method of booking snow tyres, snow chains and ski racks is via our call centre, by calling 0808 284 4444. You can also add them to an existing reservation.
 

How much do Winter Products cost?

Prices vary by country so please check online during the booking process, or ask your call centre agent when booking via the call centre.

Where are Winter Products available?

Winter products are only available at selected Budget stations across the World.

Winter product terms by country

Winter products are compulsory by law in certain countries. Please read below for more information:

Austria
Winter tyres are compulsory and fitted between 1 November and 15 April and a fee will apply. Snow Chains and ski racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Bulgaria
Snow chains and ski / snowboard racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Canada
Winter tyres and snow chains are not available in most provinces and territories. In Québec, winter tyres are compulsory from 15 December through to 15 March. Budget vehicles are equipped with all weather tyres. Ski/Snowboard racks are available at selected Budget branches.

Denmark
It is recommended to drive with snow tyres in Denmark between 1 November and 31 March. If you wish to have snow tyres on your rental car, please select them during the booking process. If you do not select snow tyres the rental car will be delivered with summer tyres.

Estonia
Winter tyres are compulsory between 15 November and 15 March and are fitted free of charge. Ski/Snowboard racks are available at selected Budget branches.

France
Snow chains and ski / snowboard racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Italy
Snow chains and ski / snowboard racks are available on request at selected Budget branches. Please be aware that, for most Italian provinces, there is the requirement to fit winter tyres or have a set of snow chains on board specifically for the type of vehicle hired in the period between 15 November and 15 April. We recommend you check in advance whether your travel itinerary covers one or more stretches of road where this requirement is in force. This can be done by consulting the websites www.poliziadistato.it and www.mit.gov.it.

Norway
Winter tyres are compulsory between 1 November and 15 March and are fitted free of charge. Snow chains and ski racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Romania
Winter tyres are compulsory between 15 November and 31 March and a fee will apply. Snow chains are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Slovakia
Winter tyres are compulsory and fitted between 15 November and 31 March and a fee will apply. Snow chains are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Slovenia
Winter tyres are compulsory and fitted between 15 November and 15 March and a fee will apply. Snow chains and ski racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.

Switzerland
Ski racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.

USA
Winter tyres and snow chains are not available. Budget vehicles are equipped with all weather tyres. Ski/snowboard racks are available on request at selected Budget branches.
